Born in Philadelphia, Robert has lived in Georgia for over a decade and settled with his wife, Safiya in the Peachtree Corners neighborhood of Brookwood. Robert and Safiya specifically chose Gwinnett because it was, and remains, a great place to live, work and play. Most importantly, the Byars settled here to build their family that currently includes their one year old daughter, Olivia.
Robert’s work in the community has followed him from his days in Pennsylvania as an Eagle Scout to his commitment to service in Georgia.
Robert received his Bachelors degree in Sociology from Morehouse College and his Master’s in Social Work from Clark Atlanta University. During his college years, Robert committed to over 1,300 hours of community service as a Bonner Scholar and worked with youth within the community. He had the honor of being appointed Guardian Ad Litum of the Fulton County Juvenile Court where he represented troubled youth. As a District Chair in the Gwinnett Democratic Party, Robert has been able to reach out to various groups and communities in this ever evolving county. He continually displays that vision and accountability are keys to responsible leadership.
Currently, Robert is a medical social worker at Grady Memorial Hospital. Safiya recently opened her own law practice in Gwinnett.
